Increase Your Productivity for 2018

Most resolutions take the form of stopping something. Maybe you tried not drinking alcohol for Dry January, or no animal products for Veganuary, tried eliminating single-use plastic bottles with Ban the Bottle or went cold turkey and stopped smoking? (Although resolutions rarely seem to last longer than January.) What about taking steps towards a more productive 2018?

For you or your business, it can be hard trying to find a goal that you can stick to for the whole year! But, here are some tips to help you find a more productive 2018.

Morning Routine

Rushing out the door and eating a piece of toast while running for the train, or balancing an apple on your legs while driving. We have all been there. Giving in to the temptation of staying in bed those extra 10 minutes, which then always turn into a mad rush at the end. Why not try and enjoy breakfast? Make yourself a fresh cup of coffee to enjoy alongside your favourite breakfast, and leave on time, rather than running behind and grabbing one to go $$$.


To Do List

Hardest Task First? When you are looking at your To-Do list, it’s hard to find the motivation to do that hard task. Leaving it till last means there isn’t much steam left in you by the end of the day, and will probably get left to do tomorrow. Try your hard task first, and the rest of the day will be plain sailing!


Reread a Book

Finishing a book isn’t just satisfying. They can give you a new idea, or even motivate you to start something new. Maybe a book convinced you to start your own business? Kick-start those first feelings again by rereading your favourite book.


Set Time for yourself

Take a break when you need one. With so many tasks to do, it’s hard to remember the most important thing. Yourself. If you are burnt out, and tired, it’s hard to achieve your best. Take a personal day if you really need one.


5-minute rule

Do the small tasks that clog up your list. If it’s going to take less than 5 minutes, do it there and then. That includes picking up that phone. Rather than bouncing emails back and forth, which can take more time than needed, make the call and sort out any problems and queries quicker, or speak to a co-worker directly.


Stay Still

If you are constantly rushing around physically and mentally it can be hard to focus on one task for a long period of time. Why not try something like yoga or something that allows you to switch off for a period of time allowing you to focus on one thing wholeheartedly.



Your To-Do list is impossible. There are far too many tasks that you can complete alone, and the tasks keep piling up. Why not hire an extra member of staff to help, or delegate some tasks to someone else? Try a collaboration team tool. It will benefit you in the long run.

Fill the Well

Take time to keep learning, challenge yourself and boost creativity. See if there are any conventions that will help with networking. Taking a day to a hot desk and see people, or learn new skills. There are lots of online resources including free courses that you can do to help productivity. Websites like Udemy offer a range of courses from Accounting to Web Development.
